CULTURAL HERITAGE AND THE SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS: A Proposed Structural Framework for the Cultural Heritage Subchapter of Voluntary National Reviews
This publication by the ICOMOS SDG Working Group presents a proposed structural framework for integrating cultural heritage into Voluntary National Reviews (VNRs) under the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Developed as a practical and results-oriented guidance tool, the document helps policymakers, heritage professionals, and SDG coordinators articulate how cultural heritage contributes to sustainable development across social, economic, environmental, and governance dimensions. By aligning heritage reporting with UN VNR methodologies, the framework strengthens the visibility, consistency, and policy relevance of cultural heritage within national SDG implementation and review processes, while supporting inclusive and evidence-based reporting practices.
