Task Team 3: National Liaisons
SDGWG TT3 Annual Activity Plan 2026 – Summary
National Liaisons and Localizing Heritage and the SDGs
In 2026, TT3 will focus on establishing the essential structures and relationships needed to support ICOMOS National Committees (NCs) in integrating heritage into national SDG localization processes. The emphasis will be on foundational coordination, practical guidance, and light but effective capacity-building, developed in close cooperation with NCs and relevant International Scientific Committees (ISCs).
Key activities include preparing a TT3 Introductory Note on heritage and SDG localization, identifying and engaging interested NCs, and helping them appoint heritage–SDG focal points. A simple mapping template will be developed to guide NCs in documenting heritage contributions to the SDGs. TT3 will also initiate cooperation with ISCs to ensure shared expertise.
Capacity building will be delivered through one online workshop for NCs and two short knowledge-exchange sessions with the appointed focal points. TT3 will additionally participate in the AGA2026 Scientific Symposium and, if possible, in other international events to raise awareness and broaden engagement.
Internal coordination will be maintained through bi-monthly meetings, a mid-year summary, an annual report, and brief communication updates to the wider ICOMOS network.
By the end of 2026, TT3 expects to have established a basic cooperation structure with participating NCs, raised initial awareness of SDG localization, identified early country-level needs and opportunities, and laid the groundwork for more advanced tools and guidance in 2027. These efforts will also strengthen the visibility and coherence of SDG-related work within ICOMOS.
